At 9 months, the Ministry of Health and Population’s compulsory schedule lists polio by mouth, as Al-Watan reports it and UNICEF Egypt’s table shows it, as drops. The measles and rubella campaign dose open to children from 9 months is a separate injection. A dated side-by-side, read 31 October 2026.
At 9 months, the Ministry of Health and Population’s compulsory schedule lists polio, by mouth, according to the Ministry’s awareness report as Al-Watan published it on 21 June 2026; UNICEF Egypt’s schedule table (file created 30 April 2024) shows it as drops. The measles and rubella campaign dose open to children from 9 months is a separate injection.
This page sets the two side by side. It does not tell you which vaccine your child needs: the vaccination team and your child’s doctor decide that.

What is the nine-month vaccine in Egypt?
It is the vaccine the Ministry’s schedule lists at 9 months: polio by mouth. The table sets it beside the measles and rubella campaign dose, which is open to children from the same age.
| Detail | Routine 9-month visit | Measles and rubella campaign dose |
|---|---|---|
| What is given | Polio vaccine (Al-Watan, 21 June 2026; UNICEF Egypt’s table) | Measles and rubella (MR) vaccine (Al-Watan, 23 October 2026) |
| How | By mouth, as drops (UNICEF Egypt’s table) | Injection under the skin of the left arm (Al-Watan, 23 October 2026) |
| Who | Babies at the 9-month visit (Al-Watan, 21 June 2026) | Children aged 9 months to 10 years living in Egypt, Egyptians and non-Egyptians (Al-Watan, 23 October 2026) |
| Cost | Free: the Ministry said routine vaccines are free at health units and vaccination offices (Al-Watan, 21 June 2026; Al-Watan, 17 June 2026, on compulsory vaccines) | Free (Al-Watan, 23 October 2026) |
| When | At the 9-month visit (Al-Watan, 21 June 2026) | From Sunday 25 October 2026, for three weeks (Al-Watan, 23 October 2026) |
Read on 31 October 2026. The Ministry’s report (Al-Watan, 21 June 2026) names «جرعة شلل الأطفال الفموي», the oral polio dose, at 9 months; UNICEF Egypt’s table shows the 9-month polio dose as drops, «بالفم» (by mouth). The campaign column is a press report of Ministry statements, not a Ministry page.
Is the 9-month vaccine an injection or drops?
In the routine schedule it is by mouth: the Ministry’s report names the oral dose, and UNICEF Egypt’s table shows it as drops. The injection is the campaign’s measles and rubella dose (Al-Watan, 23 October 2026). The sources we read do not say when the campaign dose should be taken relative to a child’s routine visits, so ask the vaccination team and bring the vaccination card.
Is the nine-month vaccine the measles vaccine?
Not in the routine schedule. Al-Watan (21 June 2026) and UNICEF Egypt’s table put the routine measles, rubella and mumps (MMR) vaccine at 12 months. The campaign dose is separate, and the Ministry said it does not replace routine vaccinations (Al-Watan, 23 October 2026). Our schedule guide covers every visit, and Egypt’s measles and rubella vaccination campaign covers who is included and where to go.
What should I ask at the 9-month visit?
- Which doses are due today, and which come next?
- Is any dose missing from the vaccination card, and how do we catch up?
- Is the measles and rubella campaign still open where we live, and is its dose due for my child?
- Is there anything you need to know about my child before the dose?
For questions after a dose, ask the vaccination team or your child’s doctor. If you think it is an emergency, go to the nearest emergency department or call emergency services now.
In Egypt: who sets the schedule, and where is it given?
The compulsory schedule is the Ministry of Health and Population’s. It said its compulsory vaccines are free at health offices and health units (Al-Watan, 17 June 2026). For the campaign, Al-Watan (23 October 2026) lists schools and nurseries, health offices, health units, fixed points and mobile medical teams, and says the Ministry advises keeping the vaccination card. It names a Ministry hotline; we did not read that number on the Ministry’s site, so we do not print it.
The Ministry’s own schedule page (dated 19 September 2023) shows the schedule as pictures, which we could not read as text on 31 October 2026; our schedule guide, which read it on 23 October, reports the same 9-month dose. A State Information Service item dated 26 April 2026 quotes a Ministry of Health official calling the expanded vaccination programme the first line of defence for children from their first day; it prints no 9-month visit.
