Egypt’s Health Insurance Organization: booking, finding your branch, replacing a lost card

How to book a Health Insurance Organization clinic in Egypt, how to find the clinic recorded on your health card, and what to ask when the card is lost, from the Organization’s own pages.

To book a clinic with Egypt’s Health Insurance Organization (HIO), open its online booking page, enter your national ID number, choose your law of entitlement, and check that the clinic on screen is the one recorded on your health card. If it is not, go to your card-issuing centre. The Organization’s hotline, 106, helps with booking (read 23 October 2026).

This guide answers three questions: how to book, how to know which clinic is yours, and what to do when the card is lost. It uses the Organization’s own pages, read on 23 October 2026. It is not a branch directory, and it cannot tell you what you are entitled to: that is the Organization’s decision.

In short:

  • Booking runs on the Organization’s online system, which asks for your national ID number and your law of entitlement.
  • The clinic recorded on your health card has to match the clinic in the system. A mismatch is fixed at a card-issuing centre, not on the booking page.
  • For a lost card, the Organization’s card-instructions file lists six items, starting with a police report. The copy on its site dates from May 2023, so confirm the current list with the centre or the hotline before you go.

Last checked: 23 October 2026, on the Organization’s pages listed under Sources. Procedures and phone numbers change, so confirm them before you rely on them.

How do I book a health insurance clinic in Egypt?

The Organization’s home page invites insured people under every law of entitlement, in every governorate, to book an appointment online (read 23 October 2026). It links to a separate address, reserv.hiocdis.org, whose landing page is headed «حجز العيادات» (Clinic Booking) and whose footer says all rights belong to the Organization.

  1. Know your law of entitlement. It is the category your cover comes under. The booking page lists 12, among them employees, pensions, widows and students (read 23 October 2026). If you are unsure which is yours, ask the hotline. The map of healthcare in Egypt shows where HIO sits among the routes to care.
  2. Open the booking site. The landing page carries a link to enter and book an appointment at health insurance clinics.
  3. Enter your national ID number and choose your law of entitlement from the list on the booking page, titled «منظومة حجز عيادات التأمين الصحى».
  4. Compare the clinic. The page asks you to make sure the clinic recorded on your health card is the same as the clinic in the system. If it is not, it tells you to go to the card-issuing centre your card belongs to, to update the data.
  5. Follow the screens that come next. This guide stops at the first screen: we did not enter a national ID, so we cannot describe what follows.
  6. If the page stops you, call 106. The home page presents it for inquiries, complaints and help with booking (read 23 October 2026).

How do I find my health insurance clinic or branch?

Your clinic is the one recorded on your health card, and the booking page expects it to match the Organization’s system. This guide has no list of branches: your card and the system hold that answer, and the Organization publishes its own tools for finding a facility.

  • Look at the card and find the clinic recorded on it.
  • Enter your national ID number on the booking page and compare what the system shows with what the card says.
  • If they differ, the page tells you to go to the card-issuing centre your card belongs to, to update the data.
  • To see clinics and hospitals on a map, the Organization’s find-your-clinic page points to a map on the Digital Egypt portal, searchable by governorate and area (read 23 October 2026). A clinic near you is not necessarily the one you belong to.
  • To learn which clinic you belong to, the same page says to call hotline 106, because it depends on your employer or your place of residence (read 23 October 2026).

The Organization’s card-instructions file says where a first card is issued (read 23 October 2026):

If you areThe file says the card is issued at
An employee (government, public or private sector)Your workplace
A pensioner, a widow, a «المرأة المعيلة» (female breadwinner) or a contracting workerYour place of residence
A child below school ageThe guardian’s place of residence, when it differs from the child’s birthplace

The file dates from May 2023, so treat this as a pointer and confirm it with the hotline.

What if my health insurance card is lost?

Ask the card-issuing centre your card belongs to about a replacement. For a lost or damaged card, the Organization’s card-instructions file lists six items (read 23 October 2026), for every category of beneficiary, starting with a police report on the loss certified by the police station.

As the file lists them, read on 23 October 2026:

  • A report of the loss of the health card, certified by the police station.
  • An insurance print-out («طابعة تأمينية») from the social insurance office, showing that your status has not changed.
  • A lost-or-damaged-card form approved by your employer or your school.
  • A copy of your valid national ID, with the original shown. For students and children below school age, a birth certificate instead.
  • Proof that a card was issued before: a copy of the lost card, or a copy of a medical ticket the clinic issued earlier.
  • Two recent photographs.

The file’s text carries no date, and its own properties show it was made in May 2023. The Organization’s home page links it among its subscription pages. Treat the list as a checklist to confirm, not as today’s rule, and ask the centre or the hotline for the current one before you go.

Questions to ask at the centre:

  1. Which papers do you need from me for a replacement, in my category?
  2. Is there a charge, and how long does a replacement take?
  3. Can I be seen at my clinic while the replacement is processed?
  4. Will the clinic recorded on the new card stay the same?

In Egypt: is my cover HIO or Universal Health Insurance?

Egypt has two main insurance schemes, with separate authorities. This guide is about HIO, the older one. Universal Health Insurance is a separate scheme, introduced governorate by governorate according to its own authority, and which one applies to you depends on your governorate and your category. The map of healthcare in Egypt sets them side by side, with sources and dates.

Where Medigize stands

Medigize is a navigation tool. It is not part of the Organization, and it does not book HIO clinics or issue cards. We are building a record that moves with the patient, shared only with their consent. If you would like to follow that work, you can register your interest.
